Before you start: two kinds of "stop"
Parental Guidance involves two people — a Helper (the adult family member) and a Companion user (the person receiving help). There are two different things you might want, and they are not the same:
- End remote access right now. If you are a Companion user, uninstalling the Companion app immediately ends all remote access to your device — no request and no Helper cooperation is needed. This stops access but does not, on its own, erase the records already stored on our servers.
- Delete your account and stored data. To also erase the personal data we hold, submit a deletion request as described below. This is available to both Helpers and Companion users.
How to request deletion
Email privacy@parentalguidance.app from the email address associated with your account, with the subject line "Delete my account". So we can act on the right account, please tell us:
- Which app you use — Helper or Companion;
- The email address on the account (if different from the one you are writing from).
We verify that you control the account email address before deleting anything, so that no one can erase another person's account or records. You do not need to be signed in to the app to make this request.
What we delete
Once your request is verified, we permanently delete the personal data associated with your account, including:
- Your account profile — name, email address, and authentication records;
- Relationship information — any name or relationship label assigned within the household;
- Pairing and consent records tied to your account;
- Device status signals we stored to show a status dashboard (battery, connectivity, ringer, and Do Not Disturb state);
- Push-notification tokens and device identifiers;
- Your subscription linkage held on our servers.
What we keep, and for how long
A small amount of data is retained after deletion, and only for the reasons below:
- Audit-log entries — up to 12 months. Our audit log is a tamper-evident, append-only record of remote actions that protects both people in a household. Entries age out on a rolling 12-month schedule and are then deleted. This record cannot be selectively rewritten without breaking the integrity that makes it trustworthy for both parties.
- Records we are legally required to keep, for as long as the law requires.
- Aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
Purchase and billing records held by Google Play (or Apple) are managed by those stores under their own terms — we never receive your payment card details. Manage or cancel a subscription through your app-store account.
How long it takes
We acknowledge deletion requests within a few business days and complete verified deletions within 30 days, except for the limited categories above (audit-log entries, which age out on their 12-month schedule, and records retained where required by law).
